Hi Guys
Our news is this – (And for those who don’t know yet, we were called in yesterday by the Dr as the screening tests detected a 1 in 32 (not 38) chance that our pinkfoot has down syndrome) Well…..we are done with the Amnio – I must admit that I was far more stressed than Liza – she is sooooo strong and I am extremely proud of her. I was on the verge of being a wreck – especially when the sister came and spoke to me prior to the Amnio. Liza maintained composure and was very brave!!!!!
Either way – I am feeling much better now that it is done and we will just have to hang in there until the results are clear by next week Friday. What is reassuring to us is that the Dr did a detailed scan of Pinkfoot’s heart, which he says is very well developed and extremely strong. We could see all four chambers and according to him there is absolutely no defect. In Down Syndrome foetuses, the heart generally develops slowly and at 18 – 19 weeks it is easy to see if there are any defects in that department. He was also happy with the structure of the spine, arms and legs. The amniotic fluid was clear and he remarked that if it was murky there could be a problem. So – we pray that we are blessed with a normal baby – the odds are good that this will be the fact and I can only hope that all will be okay. I feel so defenceless!!!
Liza will spend the rest of the day on her back – we are off to Durban tomorrow for Indaba – so another hectic week ahead of us.
Thanks for the calls and messages – we are completely overwhelmed by the love and support.
Take care and best regards
Walter

To Our Dearest Amy May:
It is unfortunate that we were unable to have your christening gift delivered to you but know that our hearts and prayers were with you on your big day. Your Aunt Mushi sent us several photos of that event and Bettie and I were blown away by EWE. Such beauty as you is rare!!!!
Know that we think of you and your folks including your Grandma and Grandpa often and even though we are half a world apart, our thoughts are often on South Africa and your extended family.
May God bless you Amy May and keep you and your family safe from the harms of this world. It is our hope that we shall someday meet you, your Mom, Dad and Big Jim.
Our prayers are with you Amy May so continue to smile, you young pre-lady, and certainly count us as true friends from Calgary.
