Greetings from another rainy day in Gordons Bay
My day started with sheer pain from the late hours of last night with the feeling that my left eardrum is about to burst. Nevertheless, it has been a long time that I have counted the minutes for 8 o’clock in the morning to arrive so that I could phone the doctors rooms for an appointment. It turns out that I have an acute inner, middle and outer ear infection. (The cheery on the top of the cake of fighting this horrible flu for almost five weeks). Well I am now on a strong diet of anti-biotic, cortisone and hectic pain killers which make me goofed. I am completely off balance and have gone deaf in my left ear. So – am sitting in bed and thought this is a good opportunity to give you the latest update on our Pinkfoot.
The general gist of it is that Liza and Pinkfoot are doing just great. They both appear to be growing by the day and our little Pinkfoot is as active as ever. At our last check-up, Pinkfoot was very secure in the breach position and had found comfort in lying with its back against Liza’s facing forward. This made for a great scan as the finer details like the eyes (and the lenses!!) and mouth and nose could be evaluated. The Doc gave them both a full bill of health and is very happy with our progress. We return for the 4 weeks to go scan next week Monday. The disadvantage with the way that it is lying is that, and because it is so active, Pinkfoot has refined its soccer skills and is kicking the hell out of Liza’s bladder. Sleeping comfortably is slowly becoming a luxury for Liza and we have to prop her and her belly up with an array of pillows in order to find comfort. She can now only sleep on her sides and even turning from one side to the other is a mission. But Liza is a happy pregnant Mom and is carrying my little Pinkfoot very gracefully indeed. Oh yes…….. the back pain!! More specifically due to the way the baby is lying, it is starting to put some hectic pressure on her back muscles – so every night we complete a ritual of a warm bath followed by a back massage to try and relieve the strain on her back muscles. But over and above that – all is going really well.
Jimmy is doing just great as well. This is technically his last week of school and will end it off with a bang. This week will be filled with Big Brags and a whole array of peer motivation as they anticipate the arrival of Grey College for the annual inter-school event this weekend. We are expecting about 1000 Grey boys to arrive from Bloemfontein on Friday and the weekend will be an event of note as the two schools take each other on at all different sports and cultural duels. Jimmy says that he is feeling quite hart-sore as he knows this will be his last proper Hockey match in his life. (Well certainly one that is surrounded by tradition and played with only the passion that a school boy can play the game at this level) He is the Captain of their 3rd team and in that, there are only 2 grade 11 boys. The remainder are all final year boys – so we expect them to be all fired up and as competitive as ever. Next week they go into exam prep and write the September exams before the school break. He has three days of school once they get back from September break and then straight into finals. His last official day of school will be the same day that we are expecting the arrival of our Pinkfoot – 26 September 2007.
With this Pinkfoot update, I have attached a little slide show to give you an idea of what is going on in the Smith household and what we got up to this past weekend. (see pics below)
Until later – and once I have the time to do another quick update
Take care, cheers and regards from Gordons Bay
